Places we have Worshipped

Have you worshipped in another Methodist Church when on holiday or away from home. Would you like to write a page on the church and recommend it to people who may visit the same area?

If so please write a short piece for us and give it to Chris.

The Bourne - Southgate

The Bourne Methodist Church, Southgate

Perhaps a little close to home for a visit but we were delighted to recently attend my Great Niece's Baptism at The Bourne Methodist Church in Southgate, North London.

The service was led by my Dad and was of course excellent.

The church is very welcoming, we have visited a number of times and has a lovely warm atmosphere.

The Bourne Methodist Church, Southgate windows

In contrast to our own church the windows are not stained but are equally beautiful in their simplicity.

Dunbar

This is my Father's home church and I attended here as a child on family holidays.

Dunbar is the oldest existing chapel in Scotland and unfortunately has recently decided to cease worsip.

The church is likely to be changed into a heritage centre in due course.

I have done quite a bit of research on the chapel, its' history and people and you can find the material that I have found here....

Overstrand Methodist Church - 26th October 2014

Ros and Chris were in North Norfolk for a few days in October and visited Overstrand Church.

While we were on a short break in Norfolk we were pleased to worship at the Methodist Church at Overstrand.

We were made to feel very welcome and joined a packed church for a joint communion service with the congregation from the Cromer Methodist Church led by their Minister Rev Sharon Willimott and her husband Kevin, who led the prayers.

Overstrand Methodist Church

Sharon preached on Blessings using The Sermon on the Mount from Luke's Gospel and in particular on blessings we give and receive in every aspect of our daily lives.

To celebrate a birthday in the congregation we all wrote blessings on a heart shaped piece of paper and placed them in a party bag so that they could be read later. An excellent idea I may well use in the future!

Overstrand Methodist Church

After the service we discovered that my Dad had married Sharon and Kevin when he was the Minister in Norwich. It is a very small world.

Overstrand Methodist Church

The church at Overstrand is a very interesting building which was designed by the architect Edwin Lutyens and is in the style of a lifeboat station.

It is the only non-conformist church designed by him and is a wonderful design of functional architecture which was almost certainly revolutionary for the time it was built.

As you will see it has lovely warm brick tones on the outside which are easily surpassed by the warmth of welcome you will receive inside.

If you are in the area on holiday on a Sunday I would recommend that you consider joining them for worship.

It might be worth contacting Sharon to confirm the likely service style particularly if you have children with you. Her contact details can be found on the North Norfolk Circuit website.
