Day Twenty Eight - The Mourning.

Jesus on the cross Image

Zechariah prophesies the words of the Lord. They would have been difficult words, for their hearers, to understand. They did not have the benefit of our knowledge of the fulfilling of the prophecy.

The words fortell that God would be wounded and killed. Could God really be wounded and killed?

As the prophecy fortells Jesus came to be wounded and pierced. Jesus who is fully God, was also fully man.

The prophecy goes on to state what our reaction to this death will be in our lives.

That we will realise the damage we have done in wounding God by our lives and actions and will come before him praying for his mercy.

We have seen through the ages from Acts to this very day where people are transformed by this realisation. That God has sacrificed himself for them.

I know, in the depth of my very soul, that this is so and I thank God for that knowledge in Christ.

If you do not know God in this way, pray to him today that he will open up your life to his presence.

Come before him in confidence, lay everything before him that stops you knowing him as your Saviour.

Know, in your heart, that there will be no judgement on what is past, only the loving words. "Welcome back I have missed you".

If these words have touched you make a space to pray to God that he will come into your life.

If at all possible find time to attend a service tomorrow and ask him gently to come into your life.

Speak to someone and get them to pray with you. If you are with us and cannot find anyone else, speak to me and I will pray with you.

Bible Passage: - Zechariah 12:10-14 (NIV)

'And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

On that day the weeping in Jerusalem will be as great as the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.

The land will mourn, each clan by itself, with their wives by themselves: the clan of the house of David and their wives, the clan of the house of Nathan and their wives, the clan of the house of Levi and their wives, the clan of Shimei and their wives, and all the rest of the clans and their wives.

Full Prayer

Ash Cross

Lord, we come to you in prayer to admit that we have sometimes lived lives which have pierced you.

Through our thoughts, words or actions, through our lack of care and love.

We pray your Holy Spirit will pour over and through us with grace and mercy.

We rejoice in your love, freely given for each one of us.

"While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us". May our souls rejoice in him. Amen.
